Methodology

Careful ownership transparency without over-claiming causation.

Veterinary Care Watch separates ownership/control, care type, evidence confidence, and access resources. The site does not claim that corporate or PE ownership caused price changes, shelter pressure, staffing changes, or care-quality outcomes unless a direct source supports that claim.

Map the clinic universe

Start with public clinic locations from OSM, official locators, public agencies, and state-by-state license sources. Keep unreviewed clinics visible rather than implying ownership.

Attach evidence before labels

Corporate, PE-backed, nonprofit/public, and low-cost labels require at least one source attached to the clinic or organization profile.

Hold tips privately

User tips, scraper leads, and AI-assisted research enter a private queue. They do not change public records until reviewed and approved.

Public status model

The first badge is ownership/control. The second badge is clinic type. The third badge is confidence and evidence date. Brand-wide ownership is never inherited automatically unless the location is confirmed by the brand locator, official site, public filing, acquisition release, or reviewed secondary dataset.

Deletion and publication gate

Permanent deletion requires explicit permission. Publication changes from research batches require a source log, limitations, relationship evidence, confidence, and human approval.
